Det påminner mig om den uppgivna kommentaren av Nancy Kress efter novellen här:I was astounded at the various ways that people interpreted my story. It was seen as anti-nano, pro-nano, anti-male, pro-green, Luddite, overly glorifying of “heroic single mothers,” unrealistic, very realistic, too short, and too long.I tell my writing students that the main task of writing is to transfer the vision in one’s head onto paper in order that it may be re-created in the reader’s head. My experience with this story showed me, all over again, how impossible that goal really is. The author can narrow the head-to-paper gap, but the story will always take on a different cast as it traverses the mysterious abyss between people.
